great piece
been thinking along the same lines
I commute via MTA everyday ( been doing the voluntary “no car” since i was in high school)
and the rapid red bus has been a damn sardine tin…
With the way gas prices are going – i am bracing myself for more contact with more elbows, asses and backpacks by investing in comfortable headphones and a inflatable neck pillow (try to get the window seat early)

word !!! that’s what I’m talking about. if folks don’t like how things are going it’s time to, as you said, literally, vote with their feet and get on mass transit. ultimately, it’s up to us…. and we need to support legislation to get suv’s off the road. they are killing the rest of us with their over consumption … thanks for the blogg … later
